APP (Australian Privacy Principles)

13 principles under the Privacy Act 1988 governing handling of personal information.

The APPs run from collection (APP 1–5), through use and disclosure (APP 6–9), data quality and security (APP 10–11), to individual rights (APP 12–13). All APP entities (Australian government agencies, organisations with turnover >$3M, plus carve-ins) must comply. From 10 December 2026 the small business exemption is removed.
